Medieval Pageant & Family Trail

The second annual Canterbury Medieval Pageant on Saturday, 8 July looks likely to be one of the highlights of summer in Canterbury this year!

Commemorating Henry II’s pilgrimage to the tomb of Thomas Becket in 1174, accompanied by his Queen, Eleanor of Aquitaine, the Pageant will feature characters from history as well as local children in medieval dress. It starts near the Westgate Towers at 11am, ending around 12.30pm at the Marlowe Theatre. With music, drama and pageantry, it’s a ‘must see’ event.

But that’s not all. Between noon and 5pm, various locations in the city will form part of a Medieval Family Trail. Designed around children and their parents, Whitefriars, Westgate Towers, the Beaney, Canterbury Tales, Conquest House and three of the city’s churches will host an exciting range of activities.

Find the medieval characters in our Summer Market and you could win a £25 Fenwick voucher, plus all entrants will receive a FREE Whitefriars book! Entry forms will be available from the market cabins on the day. Closing date is 9 July at 4pm. See entry form for full terms and conditions.
Organisers Canterbury Connected are also working on plans for evening events with local businesses. Check the Pageant’s web page for more details:
